public intervention

With Urban Rescue, I propose a temporary intervention in the fountain basin at Ernst-Reuter-Platz. An oversized life raft will be installed—walkable and gently moving on the surface of the water. As a sculptural alien within the urban fabric, the work introduces an object associated with existential emergency into a context of everyday routines, functionality, and constant motion.

The life raft, originally designed for extreme situations, is recontextualized as a symbolic site between play, protection, and absurdity. It invites passersby to pause, to step onto it, to observe the city from an unfamiliar perspective—and perhaps, for a brief moment, to feel "rescued." The work raises questions: Who has access to safety? What does protection mean in public space? How do we react to signs of crisis when they suddenly appear in the middle of our daily lives?

By shifting a functional object into an aesthetically charged setting, the piece creates a poetic disruption of public space that encourages reflection on belonging, mobility, and care. Land in Sight is an invitation to temporarily occupy, reinterpret, and rethink the urban landscape.
