‘’The Iron Clad King Sits Atop a High Horse,’’ 2025

Kweku Okokroko

performance

My proposed project is a poetry recitation performance. A poem titled ‘’The Iron Clad King Sits atop a high horse’’ will be recited in a public space in the capital of Austria. This literary work is a critique of western political philosophy.

The Poem is of 3 chapters and 180 lines. The First chapter ‘warblings of birds on the heather’ speaks of peace. The second ‘smite thy foe, kiss him not’ speaks of war. and the third chapter ‘a mountain is born’ speaks of death.

The poem weaves together a chronological relationship between the three subjects in a story format. It’s goal being to provoke thought and stimulate discourse; to create room for discussion. An invitation will therefore be extended to the members of the audience to discuss the ideas that are proposed by the poem after the recital.

The end of the discussion will mark the end of the performance.

About the Artist

My name is Kweku Okokroko, I am a painter and a writer. Born 1999 in Accra, Ghana, I currently live and work in Vienna, Austria.

To me, the medium of literature and it’s writing is a form through which I interact with society. That, in a language of text, paragraphs, lines and stanzas, is how I explore the world around me.

Upon starting studies in the drawing class at the academy of fine arts, my most recent works have seen an amalgamation of drawing and writing. This to me is an ideal medium through which to convey textual ideas, accompanied with visual stimulation of form and figure. My poems through this matrimony, has been set apart in depth and potency.

A broad range of topics are subjects of my work. And in a bid to preserve old literary material of the Ghanaian traditions and customs, I perpetuate their longevities.
