Borderless Bodies, 2025
Ronald Muchatuta
medium
Borderless Bodies is a poetic yet unflinching tribute to the displaced. It is an attempt to archive the unarchived and to create a space where the politics of migration can no longer be ignored. In doing so, it asks: What do we choose to see—and what do we choose to forget—when we walk through our cities?

About the Artist
Ronald Muchatuta is a multidisciplinary artist based in Cape Town, South Africa, whose work explores themes of African identity, migration, spirituality, and socio-political history. Deeply influenced by Pan-Africanism and Black consciousness, his practice blends drawing, collage, and mixed media—often directly on canvas—to weave narratives that interrogate colonial legacy and celebrate ancestral resilience. Muchatuta’s visual language draws inspiration from conscious hip-hop, tribal rhythms, and jazz legends like Fela Kuti and Tony Allen, creating a dialogue between sound and image, past and present. He has exhibited widely, including at the Cape Town Art Fair and internationally, and recently completed a residency in the UK. His work reflects an ongoing pursuit of cultural reclamation and global dialogue, shaped by both personal experience and collective memory. In addition to his studio practice, Muchatuta is passionate about mentorship and community engagement, using art as a platform for education, healing, and truth-telling.
